Course Description:

This course examines the relationships between Great Britain, Ireland, and the Empire from the Glorious Revolution to Brexit. It shows how British and Irish societies were transformed by commerce and industrialization, and how the development and eventual collapse of the overseas empire influenced British politics and culture. In addressing the post-imperial era, the course places emphasis on the Cold War, the effects of the decline of Britain's industrial economy, Anglo-Irish relations, immigration, and Brexit.
