Course Description:

This course takes a sociological approach to studying families. We will start by examining the different meanings of families, as well as major shifts in family life over time. Then we will analyze contemporary families, considering what form intimate relationships take, how people have and raise children, and experiences of aging. We will pay particular attention to how inequalities of gender, sexuality, race, and social class shape experiences of family.
