  • This Fallcoming Weekend, the Micro-Finance Club raised more than $1000 via the first-ever Giant Pumpkin Challenge fundraiser.  All proceeds from this fundraiser will go towards providing small business loans to local entrepreneurs.

  • Describing the function of art is nearly as difficult as defining it. Both the purpose and objective of art are fluid concepts, changing based on the perspective and context of those viewing it. More than anything, though, art is powerful, holding within itself the capacity for great change. It is effectively an insurgent: a catalyst capable of causing social and cultural advancement from within an institution itself.

  • Meeting all passerbys on Martin's Way, Alex made his formal debut Friday morning of Fallcoming/Family Weekend. The college's new mascot stepped to the music of a bagpiper and drummer as he made his entrance onto the Sadove Student Center patio.

  • Hamilton welcomed Yale Professor and Art School Dean Robert Storr to campus to give the Celebration of the Arts opening address in one of the first events of Fallcoming/Family Weekend on Oct. 9. It was one of many to celebrate the dedication of The Kevin and Karen Kennedy Center for Theater and the Studio Arts (KTSA).

  • Hamilton's new mascot, Alex, will be introduced to the campus community this Friday, Oct. 10, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. as part of the college’s Fallcoming and Family Weekend. He will emerge from the Sadove Student Center to the music of a bagpiper and drummer.  In an act of self-promotion, Alex will hand out Alexander Hamilton decals, and he also plans to attend other events throughout the weekend as well as throughout the year.

  • Hamilton’s combined Fallcoming and Family Weekend, Oct. 9-12, will celebrate the arts with a number of exciting events including the dedication of The Kevin and Karen Kennedy Center for Theatre and the Studio Arts, the opening of the new Alyson Shotz exhibit in the Wellin Museum, and addresses by national leaders in the arts world.

  • Hamilton College’s Ruth and Elmer Wellin Museum of Art presents “Alyson Shotz: Force of Nature” opening Saturday, Oct. 11, from 4 – 6 p.m. This eponymous exhibition features new and recent work by Alyson Shotz, an abstract artist who creates monumental sculptures, photo-collages and installations. Preceding the opening reception, Shotz will discuss her work from 3 – 4 p.m. in the museum. The exhibition, opening and artist’s talk are free and open to the public.

  • Among highlights of Fallcoming 2013 was the naming of the Hamilton College Jazz Archive in honor of Milton F. Fillius ’44 and Nelma “Nikki” Fillius. The dedication took place during a performance of World Class Jazz at the Fillius Events Barn on Sept. 27.

  • Fallcoming 2013 was one for the record books as sunny skies and perfect autumn temperatures marked the weekend. Among highlights were the dedication of the Milton '44 and Nikki Fillius Jazz Archive, George Baker '74 honored as Volunteer of the Year, and numerous athletic contests.
