On March 30 students in the Program in New York City visited one of the city’s great community museums. Located on 5th Avenue and 104th street, El Museo del Barrio is thinking ahead to how museums will engage their communities in the globalized and digitized future.

Professor of Comparative Literature Peter J. Rabinowitz published an article, “On Teaching The Story of O: Lateral Ethics and the Conditions of Reading,” in the Journal of Literary Technique.

Hispanic linguist Juan R. Valdez '93 will present a lecture on Thursday, April 7 at 4:10 p.m. at the Days-Massolo Center. The lecture, titled “Feeling Spanish: The Linguistic Self-Image of Dominicans,” is free and open to the public.

A paper co-authored by Christian A. Johnson Professor of Biology Ernest Williams titled"Decline of monarch butterflies overwintering in Mexico: is the migratory phenomenon at risk?" is the subject of an article on the homepage of Science News dated April 4.

Professor of Law and Public Policy at Suffolk University Alasdair Roberts will present a lecture, “Government Secrecy in the Age of Wikileaks,” on Thursday, April 7, at 4:15 p.m., in the Dwight Lounge at Bristol Center. The lecture is part of the Levitt Center’s 2010-11 Speakers Series on security and is free and open to the public.  

Two groups of local third-grade students recently enjoyed some hands-on science learning with the help of Hamilton’s science faculty. For about 20 years, Professor of Biology Dave Gapp has organized “Science Exploration Days” which bring classes of elementary school students to Hamilton for guided tours and short lessons in various areas of science.

“Submultiplicativity of Norms for Spaces of Generalized BV-functions,” an article by Robert Kantrowitz ’82, professor and chair of mathematics, was published in the current issue of Real Analysis Exchange.

President Joan Hinde Stewart announced the passing of Professor of Biology Emeritus Eugene Putala in an e-mail to the campus community on April 4.

Levitt Center Director and Henry Platt Bristol Professor of Economics Ann Owen was interviewed for a Dow Jones Newswire story titled “Banks Face Borrowing Stigma” that appeared in The Wall Street Journal and on the MarketWatch news site on April 1.

Edward (Ted) Miguel, professor of economics and director of the Center of Evaluation for Global Action at the University of California, Berkeley, will present a lecture on African economic development on Wednesday, April 6, at 8 p.m. in the Fillius Events Barn.
