Three Hamilton students, Hannah Ferris ’16, Kate Getman ’16 and Milinda Ajawara ’16 this summer participated in internships at Burke Rehabilitation Hospital in White Plains, N.Y. Burke Hospital, celebrating its centennial this year, is an acute rehabilitation hospital that has maintained a long-standing relationship with Hamilton College, offering internships yearly to qualified applicants.

Amelia Heller ’16 is expanding her horizons this summer as an intern at Vimbly, an activities-based booking platform headquartered in Midtown Manhattan. Heller, a Hispanic studies major, discovered this opportunity through research on Craigslist, and was granted funding through the Summer Internship Support Fund, managed by Hamilton's Career and Life Outcomes Center.

Alex Mitko ’16 this summer  is taking the principles he’s learned as a neuroscience major at Hamilton into an internship with the Boston Attention and Learning Lab, a cognitive neuroscience lab located in the Veterans Affairs Hospital in Jamaica Plains, Boston. The BAL Lab conducts research that focuses on “the cognitive and neural mechanisms of attention, as well as the potential for enhancing attention abilities through cognitive training.”

Jamie Granskie ’16 is making a difference this summer as an intern at the National Eating Disorders Association, headquartered in New York City. Formed in 2001, the NEDA is America’s leading non-profit organization dedicated to supporting individuals and families affected by eating disorders.Granskie’s internship is supported by the Scott Steven Morris ‘86 Fund, managed through Hamilton’s Career Center.

Some hard-working Hamilton students get a jump on a career by doing an internship the summer after their first year. Deasia Hawkins ’18 is doing two. A skilled writer, Hawkins is sharing her talents with young students at the Young Authors Academy at the YMCA and William Nottingham High School’s Summer Writing Institute, both in her native Syracuse.

Katherine White ’16 spends a lot of her free time in ice hockey rinks. At Hamilton, she plays goalie on the men’s club hockey team and works as the play-by-play announcer for both the men’s and women’s ice hockey teams. As she says, her winters “revolve mostly around playing and working in hockey.” This year, her summer has revolved around hockey too. With funding from the Summer Internship Support Fund, she is working as a public relations intern for the Columbus Blue Jackets in Ohio.

The Massachusetts Museum of Contemporary Art (commonly known as MASS MoCA) is the largest of its kind in the United States. For Communication major Jasper Nash ’16, the museum and its ever-changing exhibitions are providing the perfect setting to learn about communications and marketing.

Leigh Gialanella ’15 will be continuing along the path that she started at Hamilton by pursuing master’s degrees at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor this fall. Gialanella, a history major with dual Hispanic studies and anthropology minors, hopes through her studies to specialize in Archives and Records Management (ARM) and Preservation of Information (PI).

Julia Ferguson ’16 is spending her summer learning the ins-and-outs of the broadcasting world in an internship that will continue into the fall at North Country Public Radio. Ferguson, a comparative literature major, is undertaking this internship through Hamilton’s Academic Semester in the Adirondacks, launching this academic year under General Director Janelle Schwartz.
