The Eugenie D. Rogers Fund

Charles B. Rogers established this fund in 1938 in honor of his wife, Eugenie D. Rogers, in 1938. It supports the purchase of books for the library browsing room.

Charles B. Rogers was born in Utica, NY, and prepared for college at the Utica Free Academy. He attended Hamilton from 1883 to 1886, before transferring to Harvard to complete his degree. While an undergraduate student on the Hill, he discovered a passion for economics and continued to study the subject with graduate work at the University of Berlin. He was interested in becoming a professor, but instead followed in his father’s footsteps, becoming a banker in the Utica bank of which his father was president. In 1895, he succeeded his father in the presidency and held the title until 1927.

Aside from his successful career as a banker, Charles continued a commitment to Hamilton College. In 1892 he served as a lecturer on finance and, in 1894, the College placed him among the graduates of the Class of 1887 with the degree of Master of Arts. In 1928, he added the degree of Doctor of Laws. Pentagon, the senior honorary society, included him in its group, and he also earned Phi Beta Kappa recognition like his father and membership in Sigma Phi.
