The Harvey Julian Sarles Library Fund

This fund was established by H. Jay Sarles, son of Harvey J. Sarles, Class of 1930. It is meant to complement the Jacqueline Gage Sarles Book Fund established in 1978 by the elder Mr. Sarles in memory of his wife. This fund was established for the purchase of books in any field as well as the purchase of videos, CD-ROMs, computer equipment, or any other materials or equipment that will enhance the Library’s collection or access thereto.

Harvey J. Sarles grew up in the Catskills before arriving on the Hill in 1926 to begin his undergraduate studies. While at Hamilton, he was a renowned athlete and student. He fenced, played soccer, and captained the varsity tennis team. He majored in English literature before entering the banking field during the Depression, a risk that ultimately payed off for him. He received his M.A. in economics from Columbia and taught for a few years at Brown before having success with a career in investment banking. Throughout his life after Hamilton, he remained committed to his alma mater, serving as reunion gift chairman and capital campaign volunteer.
