The Thomas F. Moore, Jr. Book Fund

This fund was established in 1978 with many small gifts in memory of Thomas F. Moore, Jr., Class of 1930. It supports the purchase of books in classics, philosophy and public speaking, and other fields as deemed necessary.

While on the Hill, Thomas Moore was active with the Debate Club and contributed to the Hamilton Mirror. Following his undergraduate education at Hamilton, he went on to receive an LL.B. from Fordham University Law School in 1936. His education marked the start to his distinguished career in law, beginning with Root, Clark, Buckner & Ballantine in 1933, where he remained until 1937. From 1938 to 1943 he was New York City Assistant District Attorney, after which he served in the U.S. Navy (1943-1945). At the conclusion of his service, he became counsel for the New York State Department of Public Works, along with First Deputy Industrial Commissioner for the Department of Labor. His career continued to flourish and for nearly 20 years, Thomas was a general counsel for the New York State Power Authority.

Throughout his life, he continued his relationship with his alma mater, serving as Chairman of the Alumni Council from 1948-50 and as a member of the Board of Trustees (1952-58).
