Smallen, Scoones, and Strohmeyer Present at Consortium of Liberal Arts College Conference

By Dave Smallen

Lafayette College, in Easton, Pennsylvania, was the host of the annual meeting of the Consortium of Liberal Arts Colleges (CLAC), held June 16-18, 2015. Several members of LITS presented during the program.

Dave Smallen, Vice President of Library and Information Technology Services, gave two presentations. The first was as part of a panel with representatives from Colgate, Davidson and Wellesley.  The panel topic was:  MOOCS @ Liberal Arts Colleges, Roads Traveled, Lessons Learned. The four colleges explored the challenges of creating massive, open, online courses as well as future plans for collaborating in the future.  The second presentation, When IT is Real: A Bomb and Active Shooter Threat, explored lessons learned from our April 13th incident at Hamilton, with background and history about the HERT team, the technology used to support our incident response efforts, and the challenges and opportunities that face us in the future.

Maureen Scoones, Associate Director, IT Process Improvement and Education, and Kristin Strohmeyer, Research and Outreach Librarian, presented Making Students Part of the Team: The LITS Ambassador Program at Hamilton College, highlighting the program structure and types of projects done by our student employees. LITS Ambassadors assist with the planning, implementation, and support of LITS initiatives, policies, programming, resources, and promotions. They Collect both quantitative and qualitative data regarding student perspectives and opinions on the library and technology as it pertains to LITS policy, support, and training and conduct an annual presentation to the LITS division regarding libraries and technology from a student perspective.
