Tools
These generative artificial intelligence (AI) tools are available to faculty, students, and staff using their Hamilton College credentials, and can be used in accordance with the policies and procedures established by the College.
Generative AI refers to a type of AI technology that can generate new content, including text, images, and other forms of media. It leverages machine learning algorithms to understand patterns in existing data and then uses this understanding to create new, original content that resembles the input data in structure but is different in specifics.
Amplify (Text)
Amplify is an open-source text-based generative AI platform hosted locally by LITS. The platform provides the user the option to choose between multiple AI models from Anthropic, OpenAI, and Mistral AI through one platform. Because it is locally hosted, the platform offers enhanced privacy, enabling users to upload more confidential data with confidence. See the Amplify documentation for information on its use, including custom assistants, custom instructions, and prompt templates.
Google Gemini (Image, Text)
Google Gemini is a multimodal model designed to process and understand various data types, and its primary outputs are text and images. Use your college credentials to access Gemini 2.5 Flash, and limited access to Gemini 2.5 Pro. Gemini Help Apps provides instructions for its use.
Google NotebookLM (Text)
Google NotebookLM is an AI-powered research and writing assistant that helps you generate summaries, ask questions, and explore ideas based on your own documents (e.g., PDFs). By grounding responses in uploaded content, it enables more context-aware and personalized support for projects. Refer to the NotebookLM Help for more information.
Adobe Firefly (Audio, Image, Video)
Adobe Firefly is a web-based generative AI tool that lets users create images, text effects, and more using simple text prompts. Integrated into apps like Photoshop and Illustrator, it enables features like text-to-image and text-to-video. Trained only on licensed or public domain content, Firefly’s outputs are commercially safe. Hamilton community members receive access to the standard plan with 2,000 credits per month. For help, visit the Adobe Firefly Learn & Support page.
Zoom
Zoom AI Companion is a generative-AI digital personal assistant integrated into the Zoom platform, designed to help you manage and summarize meetings, find information, and get ready for upcoming events. Check out the getting-started video, or a full guide, on getting started with the Zoom AI Companion.
Blackboard
The AI Design Assistant is available through the College’s learning management system, Blackboard Learn Ultra. This built-in tool uses generative AI to help faculty create course content, including learning modules, assessments, and discussion prompts. It is designed exclusively for faculty use and is not accessible to students. For more information, refer to Blackboard’s Help Center on the AI Design Assistant in Blackboard Learn Ultra.
