  • The 15 students in the Hamilton Program in New York recently visited with Rob Morris, '76, his wife MaryHelen and two of their children at their home in Riverside, Conn.  After a pleasant meal, Morris, who is the founder and managing partner of Olympus Partners, a private equity fund based in Stamford, Conn., discussed the activities of his firm.

  • On Nov. 7, MendelsSongs: Stories of a Neighborhood, lyrics by Alison Loeb '82, music by Felix Mendelssohn, will premiere at the Hebrew Tabernacle in New York City. MendelsSongs consists of 20 real-life stories Loeb gathered from her German Jewish neighbors in Washington Heights, set to Mendelssohn's piano solos, Songs without Words. "While MendelsSongs is about a disappearing community, the songs' themes – about love, loss, growing old and survival – are universal," says Loeb.

  • Hebron Academy has appointed Louise Roy '10 as one of the school’s newest faculty. A 2005 graduate of Hebron, she is returning to the school as a science teacher, admissions associate, and assistance soccer and hockey coach.

  • Visiting Assistant Professor of Biology Ashleigh Smythe and Kelly Fitzsimmons ’10 recently presented papers at the Helminthological Society of Washington meeting in Washington, D.C. The Helminthological Society is the oldest parasitology society in the U.S. and this meeting coincided with the Society’s 100th anniversary.

  • Yan Kit Pang ’10 returned to Hamilton to teach hip-hop in Associate Professor of Dance Elaine Heekin’s advanced contemporary dance and theory class on Oct. 11. Pang is involved with the Hamilton Center for the Arts, a multi-focus arts facility in Hamilton, N.Y., where he hopes to develop and build a dance department.

  • Ashley Chang '10 is one of 170 student ambassadors at the U.S.A. Pavilion at the Shanghai Expo in China. The world’s fair attracts as many as 500,000 visitors a day, 35,000 of whom visit the U.S.A. Pavilion. Over 6 million guests have entered the pavilion this year.

  • On October 19, Casemate Publishers, a leader in military history book publishing, will release Axis Sally: The American Voice of Nazi Germany by Richard Lucas '84. The book will be the first fully-documented biography of Mildred Gillars.

  • Mother Nature cooperated and provided a glorious backdrop to a full weekend of Fallcoming events on the Hill. Highlights included the dedication of the Sadove Student Center at Emerson Hall, recognition of the Alumni All Stars Jazz Band as volunteers of the year, lectures, and musical performances.

  • Mike Evans '05, who is currently working toward a Master’s degree in Education at Harvard University, hosted a youth basketball clinic in Ciudad Juárez, Mexico on Oct. 9. With the help of the son of the newly elected mayor of Juarez, and the support of local parents and volunteers, he organized a free basketball workshop and tournament for 50 children.

  • Rich Vellante '86, executive chef and executive vice president of restaurants for Legal Seafoods, met with students and discussed “How a Hamilton College Experience Can Craft a Better Cup of Clam Chowder” on Oct. 7 as part of Fallcoming weekend activities. Vellante also visited the Community Farm Garden and 1812 Heritage Garden.
