Construction on the Ruth and Elmer Wellin Museum of Art is proceeding on schedule. Steel beams are being put in place and work continues through Hamilton's Thanksgiving recess. The 30,000-square-foot museum and teaching facility is being built at the corner of College Hill and Griffin Roads.

Heather Buchman, associate professor of music and director of the Hamilton College Orchestra, conducted Symphony Syracuse on Friday, Nov. 18, at the Syracuse Civic Center. A review that appeared in the Post-Standard the following day described her performance. “Buchman’s every gesture, every breath, was purposeful, and the Symphony Syracuse artists responded in kind, turning in a performance marked by precision as well as passion.”

The students of Hamilton’s New York City Program donned evening gowns and suits to attend a performance of Philip Glass's Satyagraha at the Metropolitan Opera on Nov. 12. A sell-out when it premiered at the Met in 2008, Satyagraha tells the story of Gandhi's early years in South Africa, where he developed his philosophy of non-violence. The Met's production has been called "a work of genius" by The Los Angeles Times.

Hamilton President Joan Hinde Stewart was among participants in the Association of Yale Alumni annual assembly on Nov. 17. Stewart, who received her Ph.D. from Yale in 1970, was a panelist on “Doctorates Without Borders,” a discussion of the challenges facing graduate school alumni in the 21st century and leadership opportunities within and beyond academia for Ph.D. degree recipients.

Students in Hamilton's Monetary Policy class traveled to the New York Federal Reserve Bank on Nov. 16 and competed in the semi-final round of the Fed Challenge in the morning, advancing to the final round in the afternoon. They were awarded an Honorable Mention for their performance overall and were recognized with a special award for "best teamwork."
