  • What better internship could there be for Hamilton’s former Student Assembly president than working at the New York City Campaign Finance Board (CFB)? Silvia Radulescu ’17 is spending her summer at the non-partisan, independent city agency whose mission is to improve campaigns and elections in the city by reducing the potential for corruption.  Radulescu’s internship is supported by the Levitt Center.

  • Building on data from  the 2016 Hamilton College Levitt Poll titled “The Russian Elite 2016,” a group of students this summer is researching the diffusion of foreign models into Russia through a Levitt Center grant.

  • For the past two summers Irina Rojas ’18 has volunteered as a translator in the Labor and Delivery Unit at Tufts Medical Center.

  • Charlotte Bennett ’17 hopes to accomplish two things at her internship this summer: help sexual assault survivors be heard and enforce victims’ rights. She is state legislative and policy intern at SurvJustice, a non-profit in Washington, D.C., that provides legal services to survivors of sexual violence.

  • More than 17 percent of Utica’s population was born outside of the United States, and a drive through the city reveals numerous stores, churches and community centers built up by diverse ethnic groups. Despite the prevalence of immigrants in Utica, however, refugees face significant challenges to assimilating into the community. Understanding these challenges is the goal of a Levitt Research Group this summer. Erica Chen ’19, Audrey Nadler ’18 and Sofia Rachad ’18, with the guidance of Professor of Economics Erol Balkan, are researching the experiences of refugees in Utica.

  • Yuwen Michelson’s ’17, a sociology major, is interning with Quill.org, a web-based literacy tool that provides personalized, interactive writing lessons for middle school and high school students.

  • Andy Chen ’16 has a short-term plan and a long-term plan. He’ll spend a semester studying biotechnology at National Tsing Hua University (NTHU) in Taiwan, then launch a cell phone-based health and education service in Kenya with Leonard Kilekwang ’16.

  • While Hamilton students seem to scatter across the globe every summer, Anna Do ’18 is staying close to home and delving into the issue of sex trafficking in the United States. Funded through a Levitt Center grant, Do seeks to raise awareness and create a safe space for survivors of sex trafficking in her native Syracuse, N.Y.

  • The Arthur Levitt Public Affairs Center recently announced the 2016 Levitt Summer Research Fellows. To enhance student research around issues of public affairs, the Levitt Center funds student-faculty research through its Levitt Research Fellows Program. The program is open to rising juniors and seniors who wish to spend the summer working in collaboration with a faculty member on an issue related to public affairs.

  • Tsion Tesfaye ’16 has been selected to attend the Human Ecology Lab & Island Odyssey  (HELIO program) in Japan this summer. The HELIO Program is crafted to include top change agents from around the world, selected through the Ashoka University network. Hamilton College was recognized as an Ashoka Changemaker campus in 2014.
