For the 10th anniversary of the September 11 terrorist attacks Associate Professor of Music Heather Buchman conducted a special concert for remembrance and healing at St. Paul’s Episcopal Cathedral in Syracuse. The concert was organized by Syracuse-based theater director Victoria King who witnessed the attacks at close hand.

Members of the Archaeology of Hamilton’s Founding course led by Assistant Professor of Anthropology Nathan Goodale, uncovered a second engraved stone less than two weeks after beginning their excavation of a site off College Hill Rd. on Sept 1. “Built to commemorate the dawn of the 20th century and the fiftieth anniversary" is its inscription. Who created and sited this marker is a mystery.

A memorial service for Associate Professor of Dance Emerita Leslie Norton will be held at the Hamilton College chapel on Saturday, Sept. 17, at 11 a.m. A member of the Hamilton faculty from 1984-2011, Professor Norton died on July 25 after a lengthy illness. A reception in Dwight Lounge of the Bristol Center will follow the service.

Jessica Burke, assistant professor of Hispanic Studies, presented a paper and chaired a session at the 93rd annual meeting of the American Association of Teachers of Spanish and Portuguese, held in Washington D.C., July 6-9.

Hong Gang Jin, the William R. Kenan Professor of East Asian Languages & Literature, recently published “Participatory Learning and Interactive Teaching: A Comparative Study of CFL with Web Tools” in the Journal of Taiwan Chinese as a Second Language.

Assistant Professor of Chemistry Nicole L. Snyder and Taylor P. Adams ’11 recently published a book chapter on the Dimroth reaction in Jie Jack Li’s Named Organic Reaction series book Named Reactions in Heterocyclic Chemistry II.

Assistant Professor of Economics Emily Conover was an invited speaker at the Impact Evaluation Network meeting that took place in Buenos Aires, Argentina, in August.

Bruce Muirhead, the William R. Kenan Professor of Art, has work on exhibit in two juried shows, one on the West Coast at the Orange County Center for Contemporary Art (OCCCA) in Santa Anna, Calif., and the other on the East Coast at the Circle Gallery in Annapolis, Md.

A paper co-authored by Geosciences Professor Eugene Domack that demonstrates how rising temperatures in the Antarctic margin have allowed an invasive species to decimate the existing marine life was published on Sept. 7 in the British journal  Proceedings B, the Royal Society's flagship biological research journal.

The Hamilton College Department of Music begins the season with the annual Fall Faculty Concert on Friday, Sept. 9 at 8 p.m., in Wellin Hall.  The concert will feature Hamilton College faculty artists performing solo, duo and small ensemble pieces for voice, piano, woodwinds, strings and brass. The musical selections are varied and range from Mozart to jazz artist Paquito D’Rivera.
