Greenhouse and Invertebrate Care Technician Hillary Joy Pitoniak presented “Herbs for Health: Moving Beyond the Supplement” on June 20 at the Oneida County master gardeners’ 19th annual Herb and Flower Festival.

Three members of Library and Information Technology Services (LITS) – Dave Smallen, Maureen Scoones and Kristin Strohmeyer – presented during the Consortium of Liberal Arts Colleges (CLAC) held June 16-18 at Lafayette College.

Hillary Joy Pitoniak, greenhouse and invertebrate care technician, was presented with a service award on May 8 by the New York State Department of Health (DOH) for her work with the Utica Community Gardens. Pitoniak has represented Hamilton on the Utica Community Gardens committee since its founding in 2012.

Visiting Assistant Professor of English and Creative Writing Janelle Schwartz ’97 and Director of Outdoor Leadership Andrew Jillings were invited to attend Adirondack Day on April 27 at the New York State Legislative Office Building in Albany, N.Y.

Associate Director of Physical Plant for Building Services William Huggins received the Outstanding Engineering Professionalism Award, given by the Mohawk Valley Engineers’ Executive Council (MVEEC). The award was presented at a banquet on April 23 at the Roselawn in New York Mills, N.Y.

Director of Library Information Systems Ken Herold has guest edited another special issue for the critical professional journal Library Trends, titled "Exploring Philosophies of Information."

Supervisor of Introductory Laboratories Jason Townsend was the first author of a chapter titled “Energy Return on Investment (EROI), Liquid Fuel Production, and Consequences for Wildlife” that was recently published in Peak Oil, Economic Growth, and Wildlife Conservation.

Director of Opportunity Programs Phyllis A. H. Breland and Assistant Director Brenda C. Davis presented “Routine for Learning” on Nov. 12 at The New York State Higher Education Opportunity Program Professional Organization (HEOPPO) Biennial Conference in Fairport, N.Y.

Janet Simons, co-director of the Digital Humanities Initiative (DHi), and Abhishek Amar, assistant professor of religious studies, gave invited presentations on Nov. 13 at Vassar College. Their audience included faculty, librarians and academic technologists.

Manager of Educational Programming and Outreach Megan Austin and School and Family Educator Amber Spadea presented an overview of educational programs offered by the Ruth and Elmer Wellin Museum of Art at the 2014 New York State United Teachers Regional Education Conference on Nov. 7 in Utica, N.Y.
