A solo exhibition of sculptures by Associate Professor of Art Rebecca Murtaugh is on display through April 22 at the Thomas Hunter Project Space in Manhattan. The show, titled Cascade, includes colorful works in unfired clay, wood, paint and mixed media.

Professor of Africana Studies and Classics Shelley Haley presented an invited lecture titled “Translation, Authorial Intent and Racism” on March 24 at SUNY Oneonta. The lecture was part of her larger research project examining racist receptions of ancient authors.

Five Hamilton students presented talks at the Hudson River Undergraduate Mathematics Conference (HRUMC) held April 2 at Saint Michael’s College in Burlington, Vt. They were accompanied by Richard Bedient, the William R. Kenan Jr. Professor of Mathematics.

Associate Professor of Government Sharon Werning Rivera recently published an article in a special issue of Demokratizatsiya honoring the life and career of Russian opposition leader Boris Nemtsov. A vocal critic of Vladimir Putin’s regime, Nemstov was shot and killed in 2015.

Roberta Krueger, the Burgess Professor of French, recently published “Antoine de la Sale’s Petit Jehan de Saintré and the Comte de Tressan: Libertinage, gallantry and French identity in an eighteenth-century adaptation” in Cahiers de recherches médiévales et humanists (Journal of Medieval and Humanistic Studies).

Visiting Assistant Professor of Africana Studies Reynaldo Ortiz-Minaya gave the opening remarks at the Third Biennial Undergraduate Student Research Conference held at the State University of New York at Binghamton on March 12. He then traveled to Cuba where he made two presentations and conducted research.

The French government has promoted Professor of French John C. O'Neal  to the rank of commandeur in the Ordre des Palmes Académiques (the Order of the French Academic Palms), the highest rank in this order, founded by Napoleon in 1808.

Associate Professor of Chemistry Adam Van Wynsberghe recently presented a seminar detailing the progress his research laboratory has made in understanding the ways in which small molecules bind to the influenza protein neuraminidase.

Ten women participating in summer research in the Hamilton College Chemistry, Computer Science and Physics departments have been recognized as Clare Boothe Luce Undergraduate Research Scholars. Funded through a grant from the Henry Luce Foundation and matching funds from Hamilton College, these awards provide stipends and funding for equipment, supplies, and travel to encourage women to either begin or continue research projects in the three disciplines.

Visiting Assistant Professor of Government Ivan Rasmusssen  gave a lecture at Whitesboro High School as part of the school’s international student day celebrations on March 11.
