More than 80 members of the Hamilton community participated in the America’s Greatest Heart Run and Walk on March 7 in Utica.  This year’s donations are still being counted,  but in 2014 Team Hamilton raised $9,727 for the American Heart Association. Hamilton organizers  hope to come close to that amount for this year. The entire 2015 event included about 8,000 participants, with more than $1 million raised.

Professor of Psychology Jen Borton, juniors Becca Rees and Abby Quirk, and Mark Oakes of St. Lawrence University, presented a poster on Feb. 28 at the annual conference of the Society for Personality and Social Psychology conference in Long Beach, Calif.

Visiting Assistant Professor of Classics Jesse Weiner recently published articles in Classical Receptions Journal and in the book Classical Traditions in Science Fiction and he also delivered a related lecture at Bryn Mawr College in February.

Assistant Professor of Chemistry Max Majireck was a co-author on a collaborative paper published in the Feb. 10 issue of Cell Reports. “Niche-Based Screening in Multiple Myeloma Identifies a Kinesin-5 Inhibitor with Improved Selectivity over Hematopoietic Progenitors” resulted from a project that involved 33 researchers and 16 different institutional affiliations including Harvard, Columbia and the Broad Institute of Harvard and MIT.

The Department of Dance and Movement Studies will present its annual Spring Dance Concert on Friday, March 6, and Saturday, March 7, at 7:30 p.m., in Wellin Hall, Schambach Center for Music and Performing Arts.

Erica De Bruin, assistant professor of government, presented two papers at the International Studies Association Annual Convention, held Feb. 18-22, in New Orleans.

Philip Pearle, professor of physics emeritus, co-authored a paper published in the November issue of the journal Physical Review A (PRA). “Heating of trapped ultra cold atoms by collapse dynamics” was written with Franck Laloë of the École Normale Supérieure and William Mullin of the University of Massachusetts.

Joyce M. Barry, visiting assistant professor of women’s studies, published an article in the anthology Women of the Mountain South: Identity, Work and Activism.

American diplomat Karl F. Inderfurth, the Sol M. Linowitz Professor of International Affairs, will present a lecture titled “Afghanistan: The Last Days of Kabul?” on Wednesday, March 4 at 7:30 p.m., in the Red Pit, Kirner-Johnson Building. Inderfurth’s lecture is sponsored by the Government Department and is free and open to the public.

A painting by Katharine Kuharic, the Kevin W. Kennedy Professor of Art, is included in The Armory Show March 5-8 on Piers 92 and 94 on Manhattan’s west side. “The Nipple I Never Knew” (2015) is part of the P.P.O.W. Gallery exhibition.
