Application & Aid
Program Application Process
- Go to the Getting Started Page and complete the listed tasks.
- Complete the program application.
Many programs have rolling admissions, so apply in advance of the deadlines. Often programs fill before the published deadlines. - Request your official transcript if needed.
- Request faculty recommendations if needed.
Provide your faculty referee with the information needed to complete those recommendations. - Request program approval from the Office of Off-Campus Study.
Declaring Your Leave of Absence
In order to study abroad or off-campus on an approved program, you must officially declare your leave of absence by submitting the Declaration of Academic Leave of Absence for Off-Campus Study the semester before your study off-campus.
Fall Leave of Absence Deadline: Early October
Spring Leave of Absence Deadline: Early March
You must declare your leave of absence by the appropriate deadline even if your program plans have not yet been confirmed. There is no penalty to withdraw or change your leave of absence.
Hamilton Study Abroad Fee
Hamilton’s study abroad fee is $1500 per semester program. A student participating in a single, full-year program will be charged $2000 for the academic year, divided equally each semester. This fee, which will be discontinued effective with the 2023-24 academic year, does not apply to Hamilton programs.
Hamilton provides support before, during, and after a student’s experience abroad. This support includes maintaining an off-campus study resource center, advising at all stages of the study abroad experience, processing applications and leave of absence declarations, transferring financial aid, transferring credit, travel health services, and support for course registration and housing arrangements for the semester the student returns. Students also maintain access to library resources, academic advisor and departmental resources, and technology resources such as their Hamilton email account.
Financial Aid
Many Hamilton students who study abroad receive financial aid, and Hamilton College will work with students receiving aid to try to make their study abroad goal achievable.

- See Cost & Aid for more information about financing and scholarships.
