In addition to our group events, Hamilton in France strongly urges students to become involved away from the English-speaking student community and to participate in the many activities that Paris has to offer. Choosing and following through with one among the many artistic, cultural or social associations and clubs in Paris is the absolute best way for students to integrate and build a truly Parisian lifestyle. HiF staff will provide assistance to locate such activities; then students make their own arrangements for participation. HiF may reimburse a portion of the costs. Consider the following options:
Paris universities have many student groups that organize activities around special interests (sports, travel, hiking, etc.), and the city abounds with special-interest associations.
The program office maintains information about courses that usually are offered for free in various city districts. Program staff will help students find volunteer work.
Students interested in volunteer teaching may register through a program in which they teach three to four hours a week in a Paris lycée or collège.
The program may co-sponsor receptions with French student organizations and encourages students to make suggestions and assist in planning events. A French student assistant is available to meet with students for weekly conversation and to answer questions about university life.
Students seeking competitive play may join local athletic associations. Opportunities abound for joining soccer, basketball, swimming and volleyball teams. Interested students should investigate possibilities before or upon arrival in France because memberships are usually annual and the season may run from October through May.
