What does interdisciplinary mean? Interdisciplinary or multidisciplinary study refers to combining the approaches and methodologies of two or more disciplines to address a question or topic. As our understanding of the world evolves so do the lenses through which we examine it. Interdisciplinary areas of study open up new areas of inquiry, new methodologies, new theories and transform traditional disciplines. Hamilton College has over 20 interdisciplinary programs and departments. For those who want to pursue other combinations of disciplines, students also have the option of designing their own interdisciplinary concentration.
